Walking itinerary of the lakes for those who love trekking

A naturalistic itinerary that connects the main areas of environmental value of the northern lake Iseo

This fantastic walking itinerary starts from the nearby lake village of Castro, at the end of the street Via Corna is the start of the ancient Roman paved road.

The first stunning point you should not miss is the Tinazzo Gorge Natural Park with the gorge that is a stunning natural monument sculpted by the sheer power of the waters.
The ancient Roman road that crosses the park and the Porta del Dazio are the main testimonies of the commercial importance of this street which, in the past, connected Lake Iseo to Val Borlezza.

Not far away you can see Maglio di Poltragno dating back to the 1400s, a symbol of a rural culture, and the Church of San Defendente located on the Esmate plateau which is one of the most fascinating and panoramic spots in the whole of the northern lake Iseo.

You will then reach the heart of this fantastic itinerary, that is the Valle del Freddo natural reserve which is known for its particular microclimatic phenomenon that determines the growth of the typical high mountain flora thanks to the presence of cold holes or "mouths" from which cold air comes out.

Natural Reserve, characterized by the particular phenomenon of cold air from the soil that allows the development of floral species typical of alpine and nival areas. Also surprising is the crannog that surrounds the Lake of Gaiano, in which many species of birds and mammals find refuge.

The whole territory is crossed by a dense network of paths and rural roads from which it is possible to enjoy very suggestive panoramic views of lake Iseo, Val Borlezza and Val Cavallina.
