Lovere, Bossico, Sanctuary of St. Giovanni by bike or on foot

A thousand emotions itinerary reserved to the more experts...

An exciting journey between the lake and the mountains with landscapes of unsurpassable beauty reserved for the most experienced who do not fear fatigue. This is a fairly challenging route reserved for the more experienced people who love nature and are not afraid of mountain climbs or trails.

Cycling along Lovere lake waterfront follow the signs for the Santuario delle Sante Gerosa and Capitanio a Gothic-Lombard architectural complex with mosaics, frescoes and colourful glass windows that we recommend you to visit.

After the church along the Via Torricella and Donatori di Sangue you will reach a mule track immersed in the enchanting nature that climbs up to the Sanctuary of San Giovanni in Monte Cala built on the ruins of an ancient medieval fortress.
After so much effort, make a stop and admire the fascinating landscape in front of you with the lake and the mountains.

In just a few minutes’ walk there is the Monte Cala Farm that offers guided visits by appointment and where you can purchase scrumptious local cheese.

Return on the mule track and follow the path on the left that will lead you to the plateau of Bossico that dominates the Val Borlezza, the Alta Valle Cavallina and Lake Iseo. The steep mule track you will face is hard but we assure you that the climb is while worth it considering the enchanting panorama that offers you the plateau is of incredible and exceptional beauty.

On the plateau you can admire a series of historic villas that bear the name of the 7 Hills of Rome or places and events that refer to the capital or the names that recall Garibaldi who united Italy.

In the small village of Bossico surrounded by the green mountains you will find countless well-marked trails and if you are not tired you can continue on one of those. If though you are tired proceed towards the downhill road where you can admire woods and hills with typical local farms until you reach the forest path that leads to Ceratello and Corti and then return to Lovere thus reaching your starting point.
